At Lifeline, women's health is our priority, with expert care at our Gynaecology Department. Department of Gynaecology

Obsterics & Gynaecology

When you come to the Lifeline Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, you will find support on your lifelong journey from childbearing age to menopause and beyond. Its team-based approach includes you as a partner in care, healing, hope and solutions to complex problems. The department has one of the largest and most respected obstetrics and gynaecology practices in the world.

The experts of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology work in multidisciplinary teams to develop an individualized treatment plan for each person after a thorough evaluation using the latest diagnostic technology. The department provides a comprehensive and holistic approach to the medical condition of women, their pregnancy and post-delivery care along with a strong support system.

Most consultants within the specialty work in both obstetrics and gynaecology (O&G). Many have a major special interest in a particular area, such as high-risk obstetrics, fertility care or minimal access surgery. A smaller number of consultants work as sub specialists, with all of their work concentrated in a specific area of practice. The obstetric team handles antenatal and gynaecological cases, including normal deliveries and caesarean section. It also handles all obstetric and gynaecological emergencies round the clock. The team members are trained and highly motivated. They specialize in managing high-risk pregnancies and Preterm deliveries.

Complementary to our mission is our commitment to educate the next generation of health care professionals and to participate in evidence based research to ensure patient care continues to evolve in the areas of quality and safety. Our residency and fellowship training programs have an excellent reputation for providing a wide range of clinical experiences to a diverse population of women. Residents and fellows participate in a mentored-research experience and training in research methodology. The faculty is committed to training the next generation of specialists, sub-specialists and physician-investigators in obstetrics and gynaecology. At the Lifeline, in addition to providing the most advanced care to meet the health needs of every mother and child, women have options throughout labour and in postpartum recovery, including Deluxe Maternity Suites.

Painless Delivery and labour Suites

We have a dedicated team of Anaesthesiologists to provide round the clock epidural service, and make sure that you have painless and normal delivery. All the doctors are trained in providing labour analgesia and dealing with any problems that may arise. Labour pain is rated as severe by most women who do not receive pain relief. With advent of modern medicine and availability of techniques with skilled practioners, it is now considered ‘inhuman’ not to relieve the pain of labour. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists says “Labour results in severe pain for many women. There is no other circumstance where it is considered acceptable for a person to experience untreated severe pain, amenable to safe intervention, while under a physician’s care”.

On the Labour Suite there is access to closer monitoring for you and your baby during your labour and the birth, should you need it. There is a large Labour Suite at our hospital, where you can be cared for by a team of Nurses and Doctors.

High-Risk Pregnancy

Obstetricians can care for most women during pregnancy. However, sometimes having a baby is more complicated. A pregnancy is considered high risk when there are potential complications that could affect the mother, the baby or both. These complications could exist prior to pregnancy, arise during pregnancy or emerge after pregnancy. We offer obstetrical ultrasound services to all pregnant women and provide specialized care for women considered at high risk for a pregnancy.

Our Fetal Medicine specialist is an obstetrician who has received additional training (a fellowship) and can evaluate, diagnose and monitor high-risk pregnancies. Lifeline FM specialists work to make high-risk situations less stressful for you, your baby and your family.
